About the organisers

The first Reading Climate Festival was held in 2020, as part of Reading’s response to the global climate emergency. It started as a series of online talks to mobilise people around various priorities for climate action in Reading – including talks on retrofit, heat pumps, energy efficiency and so on.

Since then, the festival has grown to include events for children (such as a samba parade using  instruments the kids made themselves, using ‘junk’); art installations for the public; sustainable fashion events; workshops for businesses who want to measure their climate impacts; presentations from some of our local food, allotment and rewilding experts; film showings and much more.

The Festival is run on a not-for-profit basis by Reading Climate Change Partnership (RCCP), the steering group of the Reading Climate Action Network. RCCP is also the team that brings people together to create the town’s climate action plans. We’re currently designing a Year of Climate Engagement to bring people into a process to co-create the town’s climate action plan for 2025 – 2030. This year’s Festival will be a big part of that engagement!

RCCP is working to grow the membership of the Reading Climate Action Network (individuals and organisations) with the aim of building a community that works together to get  Reading to net zero as soon as possible – ideally by 2030!
